2017 Employee Benefits Information


2017 Benefit Elections on Employee Self Service (ESS)

Please take time to review your 2017 elections on ESS.  You can find your elections by clicking on the Benefits tab.  Be sure to also verify your benefit deductions by reviewing your pay check!

Dependent Eligibility Verification

Employees who added dependents and did not provide documentation verifying dependent eligibility can expect to have these dependents removed from medical, dental or vision coverage.

Employees who have dependents enrolled for coverage and did not provide Social Security Numbers for them risk having their claims rejected for lack of coverage. To correct this, please provide this information to the Benefits Department by calling 365-6475.


The 2016 plan year is coming to a close.  Please read these important reminders regarding your account. 


Grace Period for Health Care Flexible Spending Account

Under Health Care Flexible Spending Account plan provisions, participants have up until March 15, 2017 to continue to incur medical expenses and use funds that they have not exhausted from their 2016 account.  For example, you can go to the dentist in February 2017 to get a root canal and use money from your 2016 account to pay for this expense.  To see information about your Flexible Spending Account, including account balances, log onto www.discoverybenefits.com or call Discovery Benefits at 1-866-451-3399.  The grace period described above does not apply to funds in the Dependent Care account. 


Submitting Receipts from Plan Year 2016

The plan, in accordance with IRS regulations, allows you to continue to be reimbursed into 2017 for money left in both your Dependent and Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts from 2016.  All submissions for reimbursement for the 2016 Dependent and Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts are due to Discovery Benefits no later than April 30, 2017. Any dollars left unclaimed in the 2016 Flexible Spending Accounts after the April 30th deadline will be forfeited.

Important Reminder Regarding Submitting Documentation to Substantiate Flexible Spending Transactions


Please be advised that Flexible Spending Accounts are a pre-tax benefit,  Discovery Benefits is able to automatically approve some (but not all) debit card transactions according to IRS regulations.   If requested, you are REQUIRED to provide documentation to Discovery Benefits to validate debit card transactions. This ensures the debit card was used for IRS approved items/services within the allowed time frame.  Documentation should include the date of service, type of service and the final patient responsibility.  An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from insurance is a great source of this information.  Failure to provide requested documentation will require the employee to repay any unsubstantiated funds to the plan on an after-tax basis.  A link to frequently asked questions regarding substantiating claims, how to log in and how to review your account information can be found on this web page under the heading Additional Information.
