Welcome to A. G. Bell School
201381312471762_image.jpegA. G. Bell School is the preschool and kindergarten center for the Columbus City Schools Hearing Impaired Program (CHIP). We serve young children who are hearing impaired from Central Ohio. A small group of hearing children serve as peers and include siblings of CHIP students, children of staff, and friends of CHIP. CHIP faculty and staff seek to serve all children equally without regard to race, creed, or national origin.

The purpose of the CHIP preschool and Kindergarten is to provide an atmosphere where diagnostics and instruction can take place simultaneously. Professional diagnosticians work closely with teachers and parents to establish learning goals for each child. Evaluating progress and adjusting instruction when necessary is an on-going process. Parent involvement is crucial to decision-making. All operations of A. G. Bell School conform to the guidelines set by the Ohio Preschool Law.

Students who are three years of age may be eligible to participate in a full day preschool program, if that is determined to be the most appropriate for the child. Class sizes do not exceed eight hearing impaired students per class. Licensed Speech/ Language pathologists provide speech therapy services in addition to the classroom teacher's speech instruction. Classroom communication options are available that emphasize the oral/aural and total communication approaches.
Parent Involvement
A. G. Bell has an active Parent-Teacher Association. This organization sponsors social gatherings and special programs through the year.

The school has many occasions planned through the year to encourage parent involvement. They include: IEP conferences, Meet the Teacher Day, Open House, Parent Conferences days, field trips, parent programs, and planned visitations. There is a Parent Breakfast in the spring and individual classes prepare special programs throughout the school year.

Parents are the heart of the school process. Frequent contacts are made between the home and school, either by visitations, telephone contacts, or written correspondence. Parents are partners in the decision making process. The CHIP staff strives to provide objective information and parents are encouraged to contribute information of their own to make decisions comfortable and positive.
PTA
The A.G. Bell PTA meets monthly. Come learn about your child's school year! Meet other parents! Please consider joining our group. The time commitment is small, but the rewards are great. There are many ways to help shape the extra activities that make your child's school experience even more extraordinary.

All Welcome!

The PTA provides funds for classroom supplies, parties, field trips, indoor and outdoor playground equipment, library supplies, teacher appreciation and conference dinners, live performances at our school, and much more.
