Columbus City Schools Calls on Community
Volunteers Needed to Assist Students with Reading

Columbus City Schools (CCS) is calling on the Columbus community to help its students develop strong literacy skills in the early grades through a newly developed Reading Support Initiative.  Following the adopt-a-school model, CCS is seeking volunteer Reading Buddies for the Reading Support Initiative who can provide additional guided reading support for students who are in the early stages of literacy development in first, second, and third grades. Read Superintendent Good's message to the community with more details on the program and how to get involved.
Reading Support Initiative

Columbus Metropolitan Library Reading Help
The Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) Reading Buddies program is 15 minutes of one-on-one reading practice with a library staff person or volunteer. It's offered after school, in all 21 CML locations, for students in kindergarten through third grade. To find out more, click on this link - CML Reading Buddies.

School Partnerships
A partnership is an  ongoing, dynamic relationship that must be mutually beneficial for the school, the students, and the partner. Partnerships are designed to encourage a cooperative relationship between a school and a business or other organization in support of the District's mission. Partnerships can include volunteer relationships and grant-related services. If you are interested in becoming a partner with Columbus City Schools , click HERE.

Interim Goals

New Superintendent Dan Good, Ph.D., has established district-wide goals that are focused on three important principles:

  1. Each and every child reaches her/his full potential: Prepared to go to college, secure a job, serve in the military, or start a business.
  2. Learning environments are student-centered, efficient, and stable.
  3. The District is accountable to the community; the community’s confidence in the District is restored.
