K-12 PE Best Practices,

Starting on Sept. 13, every Tuesday from 4-5:30pm through Dec. 20 at the Hudson Computer Lab 2, Dr. Don Cain will lead a workshop that will explore best physical education practices that is relevant in Urban Physical Education settings. Each participant will be issued a district Chrome Book to implement these best practices/ODE PE assessments. This will be a first come, first serve for a maximum of 12 participants for the 1st semester. If you are interested, please register now to earn 2.25 CEUs.

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL 2016-17

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The following are the dates of our professional development dates and topics (location, Linmoor Education Center):

Sept 23: ODE PE Evaluation update with Ryan Eldridge from ODE, and “Positive Behavioral Management in Physical Activity Settings”.

Oct. 14: Implementing the ODE PE assessments into your current curriculum. Participants will be in small teams discussing and sharing how the new standards/benchmarks/assessments can be implemented into their current curriculum. Continuation of “Positive Behavioral Management”.

Nov. 8 Elementary PE teachers will participate in an elementary Lacrosse workshop. Middle and HS PE teachers will continue to discuss and share in small teams how the new standards/benchmarks/assessments can be implemented into their current curriculum. Continuation of “Positive Behavioral Management”.

ODE PE Evaluations

Our assessments are changing slightly starting this year. Please refer to our website on this link for the changes: http://www.ccsoh.us/ODEPEAssessments.aspx . This will also be presented by the Ohio Department of Education on our first PD Day, Sept. 23rd by Ryan Eldridge.

Teacher Based Teams (TBTs)

The following are the dates, times and location of the PE TBTs led my Mary Jones for the 1st semester.

Dates: Sept. 15, 29, Oct.13, 27, Nov 10, and Dec. 8. Time: 4:15-5:15 Location: computer Lab 1 or 2. A separate email will be sent out on how to sign up through CiMSs.

Physical Education Best Practices Professional Development

7th Grade PE Wellness Class

We will be implementing a MS PE curriculum writing team to create a 7th grade Wellness class during our 3 professional development days.

OTES Pilot Elementary Assessment Leaders

The district is implementing a pilot that allows trained PE teachers review and approve all elementary PE Teacher’s SLOs. Hopefully, the pilot will extend to MS and HS for the next school year, so that we are reviewing and approving our own content SLOs.

ODE PE Evaluation Information

K-12 PE Teachers

The deadline line to submit your data to me is May 27th, 2016. The best way, is to send me an email with your data sheets or give me a copy of your storage drive with your file on the drive. Do you need assistance with coping and pasting your Infinite Campus rosters into the ODE Excel data sheets or other assistance? There are several ways that you can get help. 1.) Attend one of the following PE TBT sessions, May 5, 12, 19, or 26 at Hudson from 4:00-6pm.  2.) Email me at dcain7245@columbus.k12.oh.us, or call/text 614-595-4415 and setup a time for me to come out to your school. or, 3.) “Positive Behavior Management in Physical Activity Settings”

We are purchasing this new book resource for all K-12 physical educators within the next month. The goal is to get it to everyone by the end of the school year so that you will have some professional reading material over the course of the summer and/or create an online course and introduce it in professional development next school year. This is an excellent resource and is highly recommended for all physical educators. Elementary Physical Educators

We now have access to a great online K-5 curriculum, but you will need to email me for an access code. Once you get the code, follow the instructions through our website or from the email that I sent everyone. Middle School Physical Educators

On the following web link, you will find access to all the MS PE courses that have been developed and posted online during this school year. You and your administrators now have more than one choice for physical education courses to select from: PE 6.1(mandatory), 6.2, 6.3, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.1, PE I and Sport Ed. 1.2 (HS elective and eventually replaces advanced PE). http://www.ccsoh.us/PhysicalEducationCurriculum.aspx

 

High School Physical Educators

The newest update that you should be aware of is the curriculum options that you and your administrators have with course selections. PE I, PE II, and Sport Education 1.2 ( Sport Ed 1.2, HS Elective and will eventually replace advanced PE).
