Adult Basic and Literacy Education

The Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) program offers FREE day and evening GED Preparation classes for adult learners at many different locations throughout the city, such as schools, churches, and recreation centers. Computer based PLATO instruction and online GED instruction are also available. These classes will help you to prepare for the GED and other academic entrance or employment tests.

How do I enroll in classes?

Students wishing to enroll in Basic Skills, college preparation or GED should download an orientation schedule from the links to the right, or call 614-365-5245 ext. 237 for additional orientation information.

Note: You may not take classes if

You have an F-1 Visa.

You are enrolled in high school.
 
Official GED Test

    Ohio recognizes the GED® examination as being the equivalent of a high school diploma.  Like a regular high school diploma, the GED®  diploma enables the holder the opportunity to obtain employment, apply for career advancement, pursue higher education goals, or to reach a personal goal.


You must be at least 19 years of age in order to take the test.

The fee for the test is $120. When applying for the test (www.ged.com) you can request a one-time $80 voucher to lower the cost to $40.

The Official GED® Test is administered at PearsonVue Testing Centers. All GED® testing is done by appointment only. Appointments are made on-line after completing an on-line registration at www.ged.com.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

ESOL classes are FREE and open to everyone who needs help learning English.

English is taught at many levels from beginning to advanced.

Classes include listening, speaking, reading, writing, and basic citizenship.

Classes are taught at a variety of locations throughout the city.

Classes begin in September. 

GED classes are also available for ESOL students.
