GT Ignite
Columbus City Schools has partnered with Responsive Learning/GT Ignite to offer free online professional development courses to any district staff member. Each person may enroll and participate in up to 12 clock hours of online professional development per year with this program. Most of these courses will count toward the new gifted professional development requirements. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please check your email for registration information or contact Colleen Boyle, Director of Gifted & Talented.

Please enroll in the courses listed below based on your job assignment. The ones listed below will count toward the required hours. You may select any additional courses for a total of up to 12 hours per year, but please be sure to compare the content of any other courses against the competencies laid out in the operating standards to ensure they can count toward the PD requirement.

Elementary Teachers:
  • Gifted and Thriving (Michael Saylor)
  • Iconic Prompts of Depth and Complexity (Dr. Paige McCord)
  • Integrating Social-Emotional Awareness into your Classroom (Ian Byrd)
  • Motivation and Underachievement (James Webb)
  • Self-Regulation in the Gifted Classroom (Richard Cash)
  • Infusing Creativity and Creative Thinking Skills in the Gifted Classroom (Bob Iseminger – 3 hours)
Middle/High School Teachers:
  • Iconic Prompts of Depth and Complexity (Dr. Paige McCord)
  • Integrating Social-Emotional Awareness into your Classroom (Ian Byrd)
  • Motivation and Underachievement (James Webb)
  • Self-Regulation in the Gifted Classroom (Richard Cash)
  • Infusing Creativity and Creative Thinking Skills in the Gifted Classroom (Bob Iseminger – 3 hours)
  • Building Depth and Complexity into Pre-AP and AP Classrooms (Bob Iseminger)
  • Secondary Courses of the Gifted: Beyond More of the Same (Richard Cash)
  • Defensible Instructional Practices for Secondary Gifted Students (Richard Cash - 3 hours)
Gifted Specialists/Staff who hold or are obtaining a gifted endorsement:

Counselors/Psychologists/Special Education Staff:

  • Misdiagnosis/Dual Diagnosis of Gifted (Lori Comille Caplan)
  • Twice-Exceptional (Timoth Gangwer)
Administrators:
  • Understanding Gifted Students (Joyce Juntune – 6 hours)
Most courses (unless otherwise noted) are 1 hour each. You may enroll in any other courses of your choice for any remaining available hours up to a maximum of 12 hours.
Courses may be completed in one sitting or across several and at your convenience anytime through July 20, 2018.

Obtaining CEUs
Follow the directions for requesting recertification credit in CiMS. Within the online course system, you can print a CEU certificate. Download or print the certificate to submit as documentation of completion of the PD to finalize credit.
