Summer Opportunities for Gifted Learners

Below are links to lists of summer program opportunities for students in grades K-12.  Inclusion on these lists does not constitute or imply endorsement by Columbus City Schools of any camp or program.  Please research summer opportunities that you might be considering to determine if they would be enriching experiences for the student.

We have also listed two sources of scholarships for these summer programs.  Scholarship application periods are typically January through March of each year.

Lists of Programs - Updated for 2017!
Martin Essex School for the Gifted
The Martin Essex School for the Gifted is a summer program for students who are gifted in any area and entering their junior and senior years. The residential program takes place at Otterbein University in Westerville.  While there is a cost for the program, there are also scholarship opportunities through Support for Talented Students (see below) and all attendees are awarded an annual scholarship to Otterbein University if they choose to attend college there.  Visit this link for a video of the 2014 program.  Applications are due to the program in February.  Click here for the 2015 application.
Scholarship Sources

Support for Talented Students has opened their application process for students in grades K-12 identified as gifted in any area to request funding for a summer enrichment program of their choice. Last year, STS, thanks to the financial support of the Columbus Rotary and Osteopathic Medicine Foundation, provided more than $20,000 in funds for 96 Columbus students with financial need to attend a summer program. This is a great place to seek funding for things like OWjL camp, Martin Essex School, COSI programs, and more. Students can apply online at www.supportfortalentedstudents.org. See additional information here. Applications must be submitted by March 31.

Additionally, through the Jack Kent Cooke (JKC) Foundation, Northwestern has scholarship opportunities available for students to pursue online summer courses in the Gifted LearningLinks program. For more information about the program, including eligibility guidelines, visit http://ctd.northwestern.edu. When applying for a CTD online course, enter the code OHJKC1617 in the “group code” field on the payment screen. This will allow you to submit your application without making a payment so that your application can be evaluated. To be eligible for this scholarship, applications must be completed by June 1. However, scholarship funds are limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis to eligible students. Apply early for the best opportunity. Contact gll@northwestern.edu if you have questions about this unique program.
