Class of 2020 Virtual Graduation Plan

  • Graduation

Graduation Cap and Gown Pickup: To be determined by your school principal
Seniors will pick up their caps and gowns from their respective high schools on a staggered schedule developed by each building principal. Pick-up times will be scheduled by the students’ last name. During this time, students will also turn in electronic devices, equipment, or uniforms. Seniors will be required to stay in their cars during their designated pick-up time. Families without a vehicle will be directed to a designated area for pick-up.

Virtual Graduation Ceremony and Watch Parties: June 22 - 27
During the week of June 22 through 27, each high school’s virtual graduation ceremony will be streamed on the Columbus City Schools Facebook page and YouTube channel, aired on the Columbus Educational Access Channel (make sure to check your local TV listings), and also simulcast on WCBE 90.5 FM. The full streaming schedule is available here.

Our 19 high schools will have a special commencement speaker of national renown, short remarks from Superintendent Dixon, their principal, and each school’s valedictorian or chosen student speaker.

    Career Tech Completer Ceremonies
CCS will stream virtual completer ceremonies for Career Tech students at Columbus Downtown High School (Thursday, June 18, 6:30 p.m.) and the Fort Hayes Career Center (Friday, June 19, 6:30 p.m.).

    Submit Senior Photo
Seniors are asked to submit a photo of themselves dressed in their cap and gown to be shown during the virtual ceremonies. Student ID photos will be used if a student does not submit a photo. CCS will be sending out more information about the process and the deadline to upload photos.

    Senior Fee
The Columbus Board of Education approved the recommendation of the Superintendent to waive the $70 senior fee for students in the Class of 2020. The decision is aimed at avoiding an additional burden to seniors who are already enduring a stressful end to the academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is important to note, the Board of Education action only applies to the $70 senior fee. This change does NOT apply to any fines the student may have incurred over their academic career.

All fines (including for library books, missing textbooks, course fees, missing or lost devices, etc.) will have to be paid before a student can graduate.
