OHSAA Rules On CCS Request To Relocate Select Basketball Games

  • OHSAA basketball tournament first-round sites to remain “as is.”

February 11, 2021 -- The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has denied Columbus City Schools’ request to relocate select first round games in the upcoming state basketball tournaments.

In line with the end to the Stay at Home advisory provided by the Columbus Public Health Department, the District issued a formal request on February 9 to reconsider the location of several OHSAA tournament games involving CCS teams. This was done due to the recent District decision to allow limited spectators to attend basketball games at CCS schools. CCS has approved for limited spectators to attend OHSAA tournament games.

On February 10, the OHSAA informed the District that after a meeting with the Central District Athletic Board (CDAB), the decision was made for all first round games to remain “as is” and not be relocated. Three CCS teams affected by this provision will not host a first round game.

    Girls Basketball First Round:

    • #3 Africentric @ #19 Marion Elgin

    Boys Basketball First Round:

    • #9 South @ #18 Licking Valley
    • #5 Africentric @ #18 Amanda Clearcreek

Additionally, the CDAB has ruled that any subsequent round game featuring a CCS team as the higher seed may be hosted at that school, thus permitting spectators in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
