Rising Kindergartners Summer Experience

  • Full STEAM Ahead!

The Columbus City Schools Full STEAM Ahead! program will prepare students heading into kindergarten and their families to be confident and ready for success in school. Students will have the opportunity to “experience” kindergarten prior to starting the 2021-2022 school year. Rising kindergarteners will meet classroom staff, get acclimated to the school environment, participate in typicalclassroom routines, and learn classroom expectations.

Each student will participate in a range of developmentally appropriate lessons focusing on key early literacy skills, mathematics, science, and social-emotional activities. Students will receive instructional content through the Schoenbaum Curriculum, a researched-based summer program developed by the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy. This program also includes a parent and community component to establish a strong family-school partnership.

Rising kindergarten students will also have the opportunity to experience kindergarten readiness activities through project-based learning. The Early Childhood Division has partnered with Teaching and Learning Collaborative and COSI to provide customized inquiry-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) projects for our earliest learners to complete throughout summer.
