Board of Education Welcomes Dr. Talisa Dixon as Next Superintendent of Columbus City Schools

The Columbus Board of Education has reached an agreement to officially welcome Dr. Talisa Dixon as the next Superintendent/CEO of Columbus City Schools.
During a special meeting on Saturday (November 10), the Board of Education voted to authorize the Board President to execute Dr. Dixon’s contract which sets a transition period starting January 1, 2019, through the beginning of March.
During that time, Dr. Dixon will be in Columbus at least one day a week while she continues to serve as Superintendent of Cleveland Heights-University Heights City Schools.
Dr. Dixon’s first official full day as Superintendent in Columbus will be March 4th.
“We’re happy to have successfully concluded this important process and welcome Dr. Dixon back home to Columbus City Schools. She rejoins this District at a critical time as we look to build upon the successes in our classrooms and confront head-on the challenges facing our District to best serve our students and their families,” said Gary L. Baker II, President of the Board. “Dr. Dixon has already begun to engage key stakeholders in the administration and throughout our community to ensure an effective transition.”

Leading the largest district in Ohio, Dr. Dixon’s three-year contract runs through the 2021-2022 school year and provides for an annual salary of $242,000.
Dr. Dixon will be Columbus City Schools’ 21st superintendent since 1847.
MORE ABOUT DR. DIXON:
Dr. Dixon is in her fifth year as superintendent of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District. She previously was the Deputy Superintendent for the Saginaw Public School District in Michigan.
Prior to that, Dr. Dixon spent nine years in Columbus City Schools from 2001-10, serving six years combined as the principal at Brookhaven High School and at Columbus Alternative High School.
She began her career in public education first as a social studies teacher and then an assistant principal in Akron Public Schools.
Dr. Dixon was recently among 25 women leaders from the non-profit community who were selected to participate in the 2018 AASA National Women’s Leadership Consortium. She is a member of the 10th class of the Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP), and out of 700 graduates, was selected as a recipient of the Educator Inspired to Lead Award. She has also been honored by Dress for Success Cleveland with the organization’s Walking in Success honors in 2015.
Dr. Dixon serves on the Cleveland Metro American Heart Association Board of Directors, the Governing Board and Executive Committee for MSAN (Minority Student Achievement Network), and the Board of Directors for the Positive Education Program (PEP) of Cleveland.
A native of Oxford, Mississippi, Dr. Dixon received her bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Mississippi Valley State University. She earned three masters of arts degrees (Sociology, Educational Administration, and Secondary Education) and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from the University of Akron.
