Senior Spotlight: Defying Odds and Graduating Early: Cerianna Cox Shines as a Leader, Scholar, and Inspiration at Briggs High
May 27, 2025 -- Senior Cerianna Cox has left an lasting mark at Briggs High School in just three years. The National Honor Society student led the school’s largest American Red Cross blood drive, rallying more than 20 volunteers. She regularly performs with the show choir, captivating audiences locally and out of state. Wherever she goes, students and staff greet her cheerfully “Hey Ceri!”
“Everyone loves Ceri,” said Briggs Choir Director Alex Uhlir. “She comes to school, she tries really hard, and she has friends everywhere.”
Cox’s dedication has propelled her to graduate a year early with a 3.8 GPA. This fall, she plans to attend Capital University to major in social work and minor in theater.
“I love school,” Cox said. “I think school defines me. I’ve always been in a classroom. I crave knowledge.”
Cox’s decision to graduate early stemmed from a desire to push herself academically. During her sophomore year, she discussed the possibility with her counselor, who outlined a path to early graduation: take a summer course and maintain a full course load during her junior year.
Over the summer, Cox completed English 11 via the APEX online learning platform. In the fall, she added government, two math classes, and English 12 to her schedule to complete her graduation requirements.
English teacher Margaret Curry met Cox last summer when she began her accelerated path. Curry, who also serves as the National Honor Society sponsor, said Cox’s leadership was evident from day one, particularly during the blood drive.
“She comes into a room and wants to help people and empower them,” Curry said. “It’s not like she’s trying to take over, but she’s leading everyone toward success.”
Cox’s drive extends beyond academics. Natalie Cosgrove, Briggs’ I Know I Can College and Career Advisor, said Cox is known for her warm demeanor and unwavering focus on her goals.
“She leads by example and always offers support,” Cosgrove said. “Her profile as an early graduate is incredibly well-rounded and holistic.”
Despite facing numerous obstacles throughout her journey, Cox has continued to push forward with determination and resilience. With a bright smile and unwavering confidence, she proudly shares her accomplishments and future goals.
“I’m still going to college,” Cox said. “I’m still in choir. I’m still graduating early and doing all these amazing things that some people never thought of.”
