Hilltonia Middle School Welcomes CPD Therapy Dogs
January 23, 2020 -- It was all smiles at Hilltonia Middle School on Wednesday as the newest members of the Columbus Division of Police paid a visit to students.
The students were greeted with tails wagging and wet kisses from CPD Therapy dogs Eddie, a Bernese Mountain Dog and rescue from the Franklin County Dog Shelter; Ollie, a Golden Retriever; and Simon, an English Labrador (and half-brother to Mattis K-9 with the Franklin County Sheriff Therapy Unit).
“We help provide a good start to peoples' days,” said Officer Mike Paulins, handler of Simon.
CPD has the largest therapy dog unit in the county, with five dogs joining the new unit in September. These pups' mission is to help reduce stress and anxiety while giving out lots of love.
“It’s a great start to the morning: a little bit of relaxation to pet the dogs and enjoy the dogs. It gets their day going and they enjoy having them here,” said Hilltonia Middle School Principal Dr. Joyce Albright.
