CCS Nursing Program Students Shine During COVID-19 Pandemic
July 10, 2020 -- When COVID-19 struck Ohio, forcing state officials to temporarily shut down businesses and schools, students like Raphael Ndah, who is currently enrolled in the Columbus School of Practical Nursing program had no choice but to continue their education online.
Now, after weeks of at home learning, Raphael and his classmates are thrilled to be back on campus part-time where students say they have a bigger reason to continue their training.
“A lot of people need us right now,” said Raphael. “I am ready for it.”
Raphael is completing his final trimester in the practical nursing program. He says he became interested in nursing after he helped a woman deliver her baby in a taxi in his home country of Nigeria.
When the coronavirus cases started to rise in Ohio and around the world, he says this was not a time for him to be fearful, but it has encouraged him to continue to pursue his passion in health care.
“I am not scared about it because I am a nurse, so I need to teach the people out there on what safety measures they have to take,” Raphael says.
Columbus School of Practical Nursing has temporarily transitioned into an alternative learning hybrid online format. The program now combines a combination of on-site and distance learning. The theory and clinical portion will be conducted primarily online, while the lab is scheduled on campus.
“I am ready to teach them how we can overcome this together.”
