WATCH: CCS Receives CARES Act Funding For Chromebooks
July 22, 2020 -- In an effort to continue to support students' access to distance learning with the help of technology, Columbus City Schools is partnering with the Mayor’s Office and Columbus City Council to purchase additional Chromebooks for the upcoming school year.

This initiative will support distance learning plans for the 2020-2021 school year and beyond.
In May, the city received $157 million in CARES Act funds from the US Treasury to provide assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther announced that the city will provide more than $7 million from CARES Act funds to ensure that every CCS student has a Chromebook to continue their virtual learning.
“Our funding and their commitment to providing access will provide 20,000 more students right here in our city tools they need to succeed in this unprecedented time,” said mayor, Andrew Ginther. “As we continue to battle this pandemic on many fronts we must not lose sight of the future and we must make sure each of our young people have access to it.”
“We know that technology is going to be the lever of our future,” said superintendent, Dr. Talisa Dixon. “It is here to stay and we want to make sure our students have an advantage. Having that Chromebook is like having a textbook and we are going to make sure they have their curriculum on that Chromebook and they have that with them at all times.”
This past spring, the District distributed more than 19,000 Chromebooks to students that needed access to a laptop.
The District is working with school principals on how the Chromebooks will be distributed to students. More information will be provided to families on this soon. Continue to visit our website ccsoh.us for more information on the District’s reopening plan.
