Supplemental Supports for Community Engagement
The Board of Education will be asked to invest in a partnership with the African American Wellness Walk, also known as the National Center for Urban Solutions (NCUS), to reach out to students who have demonstrated low attendance for the 2020-2021 school year. The partnership includes door-to-door outreach, developing individualized service strategy plans regarding technology capabilities, and supportive social services. NCUS will create a data tracking system and provide monthly reports on enrollment, attendance, and student activities to school leadership.
School Facility Improvements
Funded by the passage of Issue 57 in 2016, the District’s “Operation: Fix It” initiative will target a variety of plumbing and restroom upgrades at the following schools:
Devonshire Alternative Elementary School, 6286 Ambleside Drive, Forest Park Elementary School, 5535 Sandalwood Blvd, Northtowne Elementary School, 4767 Northtowne Blvd, Parkmoor Elementary School, 1711 Penworth Drive, Valley Forge Elementary School, 1321 Urban Drive, Woodward Park Middle School, 5151 Karl Road, and Northland High School, 1919 Northcliff Drive. The improvements that include new flooring, ceiling, toilet partitions, and the addition of American with Disability compliant stalls where the existing space allows, total more than $222,000 are expected to be complete by the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism
Using Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act Funding, Board Members will be asked to partner with Community Initiatives to help the district create a plan to address attendance and chronic absenteeism.
