Superintendent Message Regarding Issue 11| November 7, 2023

November 07, 2023

Dear CCS Community,

First and foremost, I want to thank the entire Columbus City Schools community for your continued partnership in our mission to provide each of our more than 45,000 students with a high-quality education.

You may recall the District placed a combined 7.7-mill levy, consisting of a 4.7-mill Permanent Improvement Levy and a 3.0-mill Operating Levy, on the November 7 ballot. The recent approval of Issue 11 is a demonstration of your commitment to student success and your trust in CCS preparing them for responsible and satisfying adulthood. This victory also brings an increase to the General Operating Fund and the Permanent Improvement Fund. As we look forward to the future, keeping supports essential to accelerating student learning and growth and fostering 21st-century learning environments is crucial.

The District has maintained its steadfast commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship of taxpayer funds. We understand the Columbus City Schools community places their trust in us to nurture the success of their young ones both inside and outside the classroom. This trust is a responsibility we hold dear.

As such, we plan to invest in our youngest learners by expanding Pre-K programs to six additional sites, and investing in the infrastructure and programs critical to our students’ growth and success as they continue their academic careers. We will also safeguard essential resources within our Permanent Improvement Fund, which are essential for elevating the quality of our educational settings. These efforts encompass critical aspects including classroom renovations, infrastructure enhancements, and improvements to our athletic facilities.

Our mission is to provide each student with a high-quality education, prepare them for leadership and service, and empower them for success in our global community. We are committed to providing high-quality education for all of our students and preparing them for college, career, and beyond. I encourage you to visit the District’s website for more information about the relevant facts on our District and finances. You are also welcome to attend the next Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. (3700 S. High Street), where further implications will be discussed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Angela Chapman Superintendent/CEO, Columbus City Schools
