JPMorgan Chase, The Ohio State University, and Columbus City Schools Partner to Prepare Young People for the Future of Work
June 9, 2023 -- On Friday, June 9, the teachers will become the students when JPMorgan Chase hosts more than 100 Columbus City Schools educators interested in learning how to establish pathways for their students in science, technology, engineering, the arts, mathematics, and medicine (STEAMM). This is in partnership with The Ohio State University’s STEAMM Rising, a collaboration with the City of Columbus and Columbus City Schools.
Over the last year, Central Ohio has welcomed a surge of technology-focused businesses, earning the recognition as the "Silicon Heartland." A collective effort is underway to ensure the proper education and career training pathways are in place to support a robust pipeline of talent ready to fill the influx of jobs needed to support this regional growth.
New Skills Ready Network (NSRN) is a five-year, $7 million investment launched by JPMorgan Chase & Co. in 2020. The NSRN leverages innovative new practices and policy solutions to expand access to real-world work experience, higher education, and good careers for underserved young people. NSRN is comprised of a collaborative of partners including Columbus City Schools, Ohio Excels, The Ohio State University, and Columbus State Community College, all committed to transforming the largest public school district in the state into an ecosystem where students are exposed to tech careers and have access to tech career pathways, regardless of the school they attend. A key component to ensuring that exposure is to engage the region’s school systems and teachers.
“A prosperous and inclusive job market is the foundation of a strong economy, which is why it is imperative for companies like ours to transform how we prepare people to compete for well-paying jobs and successful careers,” said Corrine Burger, Columbus Location Leader for JPMorgan Chase. “JPMorgan Chase is focused on creating a more equitable labor market and powering a stronger economy that works for everyone.”
“This time is exciting for Ohio State as we continue to work collaboratively to build a talent pipeline that will address Central Ohio’s growing need for a highly skilled workforce,” said Melissa Gilliam, Ohio State’s executive vice president and provost. “I am delighted that JPMorgan Chase is investing in the lives of Columbus’ young people by creating pathways for rewarding careers in STEAMM fields.”
"The STEAMM Rising Summer Institute is an example of true collaboration between K-12, Higher Education, and Workforce. OSU, CSCC, and JPMC are empowering teachers with hands-on learning experiences in STEAMM fields,” said Dr. Angela Chapman, Superintendent/CEO of Columbus City Schools. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to preparing young people for in-demand jobs and successful careers, transforming the education experience, and ensuring a prosperous and inclusive job market."
