Columbus City Schools Board of Education Names Six Candidates Who Will Interview for Superintendent
May 1, 2023 -- The Columbus City Schools Board of Education has named six candidates who will interview for the position of superintendent. The candidates for the position are (in alphabetical order):
- Dr. Thomas Ahart (Des Moines, Iowa)
- Dr. Angela Chapman (Columbus, Ohio)
- Dr. Jermaine Dawson (Birmingham, Alabama)
- Dr. Stephanie Jones (Chicago, Illinois)
- Dr. Brian McDonald (Pasadena, California)
- Dr. George (Eric) Thomas (Minneapolis, Minnesota)
After a nationwide search, 31 candidates submitted applications to our search consultant. Each application was screened based on their administrative experience, academic backgrounds, and input from the community and the Board. Community input was developed through surveys; small group discussions; interviews with stakeholders, including students, parents, and families; and an in-person town hall held on April 25, 2023.
Next, the search consultant performed an in-depth investigation of each candidate. The search consultant contacted references and others familiar with each applicant and assessed each candidate’s professional strengths and weaknesses.
Interviews with the candidates will take place on May 2 and 4. After interviews, the Board will invite final candidates to visit Columbus for a “Day in the District” on Thursday, May 11, 2023. As part of the Day in the District, the District will host a “Meet the Candidates” community forum, where members of the community can hear from the finalists in a moderated question and answer format. The event will also be livestreamed. Final interviews will be held the week of May 15, 2023.
Photos and biographies of each candidate can be found here.
