November 8, 2019 — The Marion-Franklin Red Devils are headed to the 2019 Ohio High School Football Playoffs for the 13th time in school history.
“We fought a lot of adversity, but we won all of the games we were supposed to win,”said head coach, David Lasko.
David Lasko is in his first year coaching at Marion-Franklin, but his is familiar to the City League. He was a former assistant coach at Northland, Eastmoor Academy, Brookhaven, and Beechcroft.
Not only did the team have to get use to having a new coach, but some players had to get use to new positions on the field.
“The season hit us with a lot of different adversity with us not having a quarterback at first, having our start receiver move to quarterback,” said Safety, Jesse Johnson.
Senior Jesse Johnson had to make a quick adjustment early in the season, switching from corner to safety.
With players starting in positions they were unfamiliar with, the Red Devils proved that they can take on any challenge that comes their way.
This Saturday, Marion-Franklin will take on the Licking Valley Panthers. The team has a message for their opponent.
“They are pretty good. They are 10-0 for a reason, but we have something good for them,” said left tackle, Quanaire Tatum.
“We have a lot of talented kids. We have good size up front. We have a lot of ingredients to compete with anybody we play,”said Lasko.
