Three CCS Students Earn Scholar-Athlete Recognition
July 14, 2020 -- Three Columbus City Schools scholar-athletes are among a group of central Ohio students recognized over the weekend by The Columbus Dispatch and Encova Insurance for their classroom performance, on the field, and in the community during the annual Dispatch Encova Insurance Scholar-Athletes Award Show.
Congratulations to Destiny Thomas of Columbus Africentric Early College, Alhaji Sidibe of Beechcroft High School, and Naa Droma Korley of Centennial High School.
The students are among nearly two-dozen senior scholar-athletes selected by 106 area schools. Winners split $78,000 in college scholarships funded by Encova, OhioHealth, Battelle, the family of Captain Warren B. Sneed, and one anonymous donor. Judges considered several criteria, including academic and athletic performance, school leadership, community service, to name a few.
A special section celebrating the 2020 scholar-athletes will be printed and distributed in editions of The Columbus Dispatch on Saturday, July 25.
