Columbus City Schools Receives Boy Scouts Community Leadership Award
October 15, 2020 -- Columbus City Schools has received this year’s Community Leadership Award from the Simon Kenton Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Superintendent and CEO Dr. Talisa Dixon accepted the award virtually on behalf of the Columbus Board of Education, teachers, families, and school volunteers.
“Like the Boy Scouts, Columbus City Schools aims to prepare our young people for leadership and service,” said Dixon. "It is that leadership and service that will help our children not only survive, but succeed in a global community.”
Through our partnership with the Simon Kenton Council, Columbus City school students have participated in two programs: PROJECT CAMP and SCOUT REACH. Both of these programs have helped more than 2,000 CCS elementary school students learn necessary life skills such as leadership and community service, teamwork, and respect through hiking, camping, and outdoor games – even providing the financial resources to help form Cub Scout packs in areas where students don’t often have the opportunity to experience nature in its purest form.
