Superintendent Talisa Dixon Receives Distinguished Educator Award
September 27, 2022 -- Columbus City Schools Superintendent/CEO Dr. Talisa Dixon recently received the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW), Ohio State Coalition’s Distinguished Educator Award during their 48th Annual Bethune-Height Recognition and Awards Event.
Under the theme “It’s Our Time – Growing Her Legacy Greater and Stronger,” Dr. Dixon was honored as a woman within the community who strives toward the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishments, excels in her role and profession, and represents the integrity of the NCNW.
“We are humbled to honor such an extraordinary woman of essence, excellence, and elegance,” said Marie A. Penn, Ohio State Coalition Bethune-Height Recognition Program co-chair.
NCNW was founded by influential educator and activist Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune in 1935, and for more than fifty years, Dr. Dorothy Height served as president. It is the nation’s broadest based organization of African American Women. The NCNW’s mission is to lead, advocate for, and empower women of African descent, their families, and communities, and it achieves this through research, advocacy, and community-based services and programs.
Johnnie M. Walker, National Co-Chair, Bethune-Height Recognition Program explained that the Distinguished Educator Award is NCNW’s highest recognition and one of Dr. Height’s most cherished, as it honors one of Dr. Bethune’s challenges in her Last Will and Testament, “I LEAVE YOU A THIRST FOR EDUCATION.”
“Dr. Dixon has done and continues to do what is needed for our children in Columbus City Schools. Dr. Dixon has given relevance to the saying that a mind is a terrible thing to waste. I might add, especially when it looks like me and you,” said Walker. “With pride for services rendered to our children, I present NCNW’s highest recognition award to Dr. Talisa L. Dixon.”
