Board of Education Meeting

Tuesday, August 6 at 6:00 p.m., South Administrative Building, 3700 S. High St., Room 825.

Viewing the Board Meeting 

The Columbus Board of Education’s regular business meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the District’s South Administrative Center, 3700 S. High Street.

The Columbus Board of Education will hold regular office hours before all regular business meetings from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. The office hours will allow community members to meet with Board members one-on-one, ask questions, and share their thoughts and concerns.

Meeting Agenda Topics

The meeting agenda topics include:

15.3 - Supporting Authentic Engagement and Strong Learning Communities in Every Region, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to enter into an agreement with Galls Parent Holdings LLC. Galls Parent Holdings LLC is the district’s partner for official safety and security staff for Columbus City Schools, Safety and Security department. 

16.1 - Supporting Whole-Child Focused, Strong Learning Communities in Every Region, Equitable Opportunities for All, and Authentic Engagement, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to enter into an agreement with Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services to provide Bilingual Family Engagement Liaisons to work with New American and immigrant families. In Columbus City Schools, roughly one in every six students comes from a home where English is not the primary language spoken by the family. This investment provides for BELs who speak Spanish, Somali, Mai Mai, Kenuwandian, French, Arabic, Nepali, Pashto, Dari, and Portuguese.

17.3 - Supporting Whole-Child Focus, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to enter into an agreement with EPS, LLC for SPIRE curriculum materials. SPIRE is a research-proven reading intervention program designed to help students who struggle with reading by providing them with intensive, structured, and spiraling instruction in key literacy skills. This training is designed to ensure that intervention specialists have a strong understanding of the program and how to use it with the students.

17.7 - Supporting Strong Learning Communities in Every Region, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to enter into an agreement with Wilson Language Training. Wilson Learning products provide research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting program. The authorization request will allow for instructional implementation and includes the purchase of consumable and durable student materials for K-5 classrooms, supporting the implementation of Fundations Tier 1 and Just Words Tier 2 instruction.

Board Meeting - Public Comment Registration

Anyone wishing to comment publicly can address the Board in person or by telephone. To sign up, public participants must call to leave a voicemail with Customer Relations at 614-365-8888 or email customerrelations@columbus.k12.oh.us by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. Speakers will need to provide their name, topic, and phone number.
