Senior Spotlight: South High's Kyree Miller Leads with Character, Confidence, and Care
May 19, 2025 -- With a bright smile and confident stride, Kyree Miller moves through the halls of South High School. Give him one moment, and he's heading to track practice. Next, he's rehearsing with the drama club before transitioning to College Credit Plus courses or leading South's drill team. Miller shows up in every corner of the school, earning recognition for his humility and work ethic.
"Everything Kyree does, he goes into it with a strong work ethic," said Justin Baker, wrestling coach at South. "He wants to be there, and he pushes himself not only to be the best he can be but also to help his teammates be the best they can be. He is a leader, and he is driven."
As he prepares to graduate and head to Morehouse College, Miller leaves a legacy of leadership, service, and academic excellence. His presence at South has set a standard for what it means to be involved, dependable, and driven.
Miller earned the title of Student-Athlete of the Year, took part in College Credit Plus courses through Columbus State, and served as a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. Through it all, he built strong relationships with staff and students who see him as a leader in the building.
"I am so excited to see what he does when he heads to Morehouse next year," Baker said. "[Miller] is truly a student who can do it all. He walks the walk and talks and talk. He is a great role model for his brother and his school. I'm just super excited for him."
At South, Miller found more than a high school experience. He found a second home that invested in his full development. Through sports, the arts, and advanced coursework, South High has prioritized whole-child support that ensures students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. These supports have allowed Kyree to meet and exceed high expectations.
"[Miller] advocates for himself; he is committed and mindful," said Charlette Keuchler, AVID instructor and Varsity Track and Field coach. “He understands how fortunate he is to be attending Morehouse. I want him to take advantage of all the opportunities and remember we are here to support you, and we are excited for him to succeed."
Miller's success is a reflection of both his drive and the support system around him. His journey highlights what's possible when schools invest in the full development of every student.
"I genuinely would not have been able to do anything I did this year without the help of the community at South," Miller said. "My parents are in Arizona, so getting around and having extra support is hard. Having people being there for me helps and makes life easier."
This fall, Miller plans to study journalism, which aligns with his aspiration to inform, uplift, and advocate for others. With his strong leadership skills and a clear sense of purpose, he is prepared to make an impact beyond high school.
"I just really like competing and bettering myself," Miller said. "Doing all these sports, clubs, and extracurriculars have benefited me in the classroom, outside of school, off the mat, off the field; my experiences have benefited me everywhere I go."
One thing is sure about Miller: he didn't limit himself to one path. He explored many and embraced the challenges. He built relationships and stayed grounded in who he is. As South celebrates his accomplishments, the school community sees how Miller's story proves that educating the whole child helps students grow into leaders, thinkers, and change-makers.
