Cowboy Book Nook - 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury
![]()
This month, freshman Bryce Wilson read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. This iconic book tells the story of Guy Montag, a firefighter whose job is not to put out house fires but to burn books. Books are banned in the dystopian future of Bradbury's book, and Bryce noticed some parallels between the book and the world today. Read his thoughts below.
I found Fahrenheit 451 very interesting; there were a lot of tie-ins between the book and our world.
In the book, one of the characters is obsessed with the Parlor - an immersive way to watch TV. She thinks the TV characters are real. She feels like they are her family and friends even though they aren't real people. She is obsessed with the show, and she spends all of her time with the characters on the show while neglecting her real relationship with her husband. This is like artificial intelligence - people become obsessed with it.
Also, there are book bans today like the ban on books in Fahrenheit 451. I think our world is becoming more like the world in Fahrenheit 451 with book bans and AI.
