Indianola's Invention Convention is Coming!!!

The Invention Convention program envisions a day when EVERY child in Ohio has the chance to follow their natural curiosity, invent creative solutions to problems, and be inspired to achieve their highest level of personal accomplishment. Invention Convention is an optional at-home project for Indianola's 4th-8th graders.

There will be Informational Announcements Wednesday, December 18th during 4/5 lunches. Journals, Presentation Boards, and afterschool optional assistance meetings will be provided this year. Judging of Indianola's student projects will take place on January 31st. Please email ElizaBeth Towne (ehall5666@columbus.k12.oh.us) with questions. You can learn more about Invention Convention at www.inventionleague.org.

School's Out: Community Center Activities

Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and all of the departments within the City of Columbus want you and your family to have a happy, healthy and safe time whenever school is out. In order to help, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department will host a variety of programs and events during winter break with safety as its top priority. Care is provided for registered kids ages 6-12 from 7am-6pm at many community centers.

There are also many opportunities for activities that are being offered by organizations throughout Central Ohio. This site lists just some of the programs and resources offered during the winter break.

Snuggle Up with a Good Book for the Winter Reading Challenge!

Columbus Metropolitan Library is encouraging students to stop into a library branch to sign up for the Winter Reading Challenge happening NOW until February 28!

Resources to help them:
One site, The Best Children's Books, allows you to view lists of books by guided reading levels. So all students, even kindergartners can find "just right books" to practice at home.

Search for award winning books in the online library catalog or visit School Library Journal for a discussion of new books recommended for this years' awards. These suggestions include chapter books and picture books that are great for all students and represent many new diverse books and authors.

Absent? OR . . .
Planning a Trip?

Please send an email right away to dholland@columbus.k12.oh.us when your student is going to be absent.  If the student's absence or late arrival is due to a doctor, dental, or court appointment, PLEASE get a written excuse from the office you are visiting. Picking up a child early without a valid reason will be counted as unexcused.

**Traveling out of town requires prior approval by the principal in order to be considered excused. Please complete this form and submit to the office a week before the travel (must indicate travel destination).

Please email documentation to Denise (see above) or fax to 614-365-8324. Thank you for your cooperation!
