CCS Teachers Return to the Classroom
October 14, 2020 -- Columbus City Schools welcomed back all teachers to school buildings today—the first time in seven months for many of the District's educators. Teachers will use today and tomorrow to orient themselves on many subjects, including new health and safety protocols, while students work remotely on lessons and assignments.
Fifth-grade math and social studies teacher Dr. Kevin Daberkow said that his principal at Southwood Elementary rolled out the red carpet for him and his colleagues. Principal Miracle Reynolds used chalk art to create a welcome mat at the front door for teachers today, and that’s not all.
Principal Reynolds made Southwood strong bookmarks that say, “Welcome back to the 2021 School year. Educators Assuring Growth & Learning for Every Student (EAGLES)," and wooden pencils with the teacher’s names on them.
She also set up a "Nacho Bar" using the opportunity to let her teachers and staff know that they are exceptional and "NOT SO" or "NA-CHO" average.
At Ecole Kenwood French Immersion K-6, teachers and staff were greeted with a ‘Merci Beaucoup’ banner in the window along with flowers and balloons at the front door put there by families to show their gratitude.
For Amy Boyd, a kindergarten teacher at Devonshire Elementary School, today was special. “It felt like coming home being back in the building,” said Boyd. "There was a buzz of excitement that we usually feel in August. It's been a very long seven months from March 13th.”
Teachers will be back in their classrooms for a second day tomorrow to learn more about the District’s blending learning model.
