Dedicated to Excellence in Education
Penny Harvest is a year-long service learning program that is run in elementary schools. Student voice and leadership is the force that drives this program. A group of 10-25 student leaders typically meet once a week during lunch or after school and are facilitated by a trained staff member. During meetings, student leaders develop and implement their plans for engaging their school in activities that will benefit their community. Across the year, student leaders collect spare change, gather input from peers, conduct and share research on community issues and facilitate a school-wide vote to determine how their school can best address the community issues that matter most to them. At the conclusion of the program, student leaders have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning by showcasing their work at a community event and sharing their story with other students and adult community leaders. Thanks to our generous donors, See Kids Dream provides all professional development, curriculum, program materials, online resources, community events and Penny Harvest collections processing and logistics at no cost to schools. Additionally, See Kids Dream staff provides ongoing direct support to staff facilitators throughout the year.
