It’s important for instructional assistants to renew their permit by the CCS deadline, so there’s no lapse in authorization to work when the new school year begins. Timely renewal helps avoid delays in assignments, payroll issues, or disruptions to student support at the start of the year. In addition, a valid permit is required to be eligible to work summer school assignments.
I don't remember my username and password for SBOE.

Continuing Contracts
What is a Continuing Contract?
A Continuing Contract is a long-term agreement between a teacher and a school district, as outlined in Ohio Revised Code (ORC) sections 3319.08 or 3311.77 and any applicable locally bargained requirements. Once granted, this contract remains in effect until the teacher resigns, retires, or is terminated. Teachers with Continuing Contracts are often referred to as having "tenure."
Benefits of a Continuing Contract
- Job Security: Your Continuing Contract remains valid for as long as you work in the granting district.
- Due Process: You are entitled to due process protections before termination.
- Recall Rights: If laid off, you retain an unlimited period of recall.
- Portability: Should you move to another district, you become eligible for a Continuing Contract there after two years of employment.
Licenses not eligible for Continuing Contracts
- Pupil Services Registration
- Advanced Career Technical Workforce Development
- Out of state, reinstated, or temporary licenses
Requirements for Continuing Contracts
- Applications are available January 4, 2027-March 5, 2027.
- Requirements can be found in the CEA Agreement Section 401.08 or Ohio Revised Code 3319.08.
- To find the initial issue date of your license, use the Educator Search page.
