Just like their students, new Columbus City Schools educators found their school year full of mentorship, inspiration, and growth.
“I think those kids are going to remember that for a long time,” said Chris Monteiro, club co-advisor and English teacher at the school. “We were not expecting it after hearing all of the poems. Every single school showed up.”
Both Mary Takem and Remmon Mengisteab take International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme courses together, speak two languages fluently, and have overcome learning obstacles during the pandemic.
Whether in class or out helping her community, Centennial High School senior Naa Shidaa Korley puts her heart into everything she does. Her drive and passion have led to her achieving excellence in and out of the classroom. Korley serves as class president and has stayed in the top 5% of her class, earning her the title of valedictorian.
Independence student Damarco Sellers is ready to inspire others with his journey.
Twenty-seven scholars received the I Know I Can Founders’ Scholarships, which are worth up to $10,000 per academic year for up to four years. Students celebrated their accomplishments at a recent celebration at The Fives Columbus.
