CCS Millage Committee Meets for Second Time, Hears Academic Presentation
May 12, 2020 -- The Columbus City Schools Millage Committee met for the second time on Monday evening, May 11, gathering virtually through an online video streaming service. The public meeting was streamed live on the District’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Superintendent/CEO Dr. Talisa Dixon presented to the committee on her vision for 21st Century learning in Columbus City Schools and what is needed to upgrade the technology and infrastructure to make that happen.
The committee is tasked with bringing a recommendation to the Board of Education regarding a possible levy or bond issue for the November 2020 ballot. At its final meeting on May 18, the committee will consider what recommendation to make to the Board of Education.
The Millage Committee had been scheduled to begin its meetings on March 12, but the start of the meetings was pushed back to April 27 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and corresponding stay-at-home orders. The May 4 meeting was also cancelled.
The committee is scheduled to meet one more time virtually on Monday, May 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The meeting will be streamed to Facebook and YouTube.
This Millage Committee was officially created from Board Resolution 19-15-390 during the June 18, 2019, regular business meeting:
“The Columbus City Schools’ Board of Education, hereby charges the Millage Committee with reviewing the strategic plan, academic needs, operational requirements and financial condition of the District and make a recommendation to the Board of Education on the appropriateness of a levy and/or bond question, including form and amount, to be placed on the November 2020 general election ballot.”
