Principal Partners With Businesses For "Supply The Neighborhood" Event
August 31, 2022 -- Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys welcomed 200 families to their school for a “Supply the Neighborhood” event.
Principal Tai Cornute and other school leaders teamed up with community partners to equip and prepare students for the school year. Students were able to receive haircuts and manicures as well as back-to-school supplies and backpacks.
“There has not been a normal start to the school year in a couple of years,” Cornute said. “We wanted to express and communicate that we care despite the challenges we are all facing daily.”
Owner of Sole Classics, Dionte Johnson, adopted Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys, dedicating time and resources to students in the school and within the District. Non-profit organization “Look Ma’ No Hands” and Adidas also provided backpacks and other supplies for students at the “Supply the Neighborhood” event.
Cornute said this was the first year hosting a back-to-school event in this capacity and he plans on establishing a foundation for events like these in the years to come.
When asked why he held an event like this, Cornute said, “People do not care what you know, until they know that you care. The labor of love of providing a haircut or fingernail painting ensures that our CCS learners feel good and have some pride as they start the school year.”
