Africentric Art Students Selected for Emerging Artist Show
September 21, 2022 -- Five talented artists from Columbus Africentric Early College PreK-12 were selected for the Ohio Arts Education Association’s (OAEA) Emerging Artists’ show.
The OAEA Emerging Artists’ show is dedicated to showcasing creative efforts of new artists. It recognizes budding talent of Ohio high school students who are just starting to explore art and have only taken one or two art classes, but exhibit raw talent and skill.
By using a professional forum for young aspiring artists to experience competition, the show helps prepare students for portfolio reviews and readies them for college art applications.
NDeye Diop, Neveah Frey, Keiwon Grimes, Aiyana Harrison, and Paris Steele were all selected for the showcase. Their Visual Arts teacher, Sidney Irvine, submitted their original artwork to OAEA. Which was then reviewed and accepted by OAEA for the show.
“They’re all talented in their own way and I’m proud that they have this opportunity,” Irvine said.
All artwork will be on display at the King Arts Complex from Sept. 24 – Oct. 29. A final show and reception will be held Oct. 29. At the reception, students will have a chance to win additional awards and prizes.
