Famous Harlem Globetrotter and Columbus Native Visits Two CCS Schools


Feb. 25, 2020 -- Julian “Zeus” McClurkin, a graduate of Independence High School, and currently a stellar member of the infamous Harlem Globetrotters, visited two Columbus City Schools this month.

Globetrotter While visiting Broadleigh Elementary and Berwick Alternative Schools, he shared that he was cut from every basketball team from seventh grade through tenth grade, but he kept pushing and finally made his high school team his junior and senior seasons while at Independence.

After completing his undergraduate studies, McClurkin returned to Columbus to obtain his master’s degree in marketing and communications from Franklin University before joining the world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters.

Through his outreach efforts with the organization, he encourages students to “be coachable. Be the student that your teacher never has to worry about and can depend on when called upon.”

He shares, “I have played a lot of minutes over players that were more talented than me, simply because I listened and understood the importance of teamwork.”
