Columbus City Schools Earns Prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 22nd Consecutive Year
September 19, 2022 -- For the 22nd consecutive year, Columbus City Schools has earned the highest award for governmental accounting and financial reporting. CCS has earned the prestigious Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021.
An impartial panel judged the report to meet the program's high standards, which include demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to the report.
“Earning this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff in the Treasurer’s Office,” said Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Stanley Bahorek. “We strive every day to meet our vision – providing financial stewardship with integrity, investment, and innovation for our schools and community. This award is affirmation of this commitment.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“The Board of Education understands the need to be fiscally responsible to maintain the educational structure necessary to serve our students,” said Columbus Board of Education President Jennifer Adair. “This acknowledgment highlights the integrity of the critical work of the Treasurer’s Office in fulfilling its responsibility to provide fiduciary oversight and governance in its mission and commitment to our community.”
GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.
