SCHOOL MISSION: Each student is highly educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as a citizen in a global community.
WHAT MAKES THIS SCHOOL OUTSTANDING: Columbus City Schools' Columbus Online Academy is for 7-12th grade students who prefer a primarily online learning environment with weekly options for in-person support, assessment, completion, and engaging and enriching learning experiences.
Columbus Online Academy is a "school without walls," featuring:
- 7th & 8th grade students participate in music, art, and physical education. (Eighth-graders can earn high school credit for music, art, and physical education classes.)
 - Full-time teacher support 5 days a week. Teacher availability during school hours includes both class time via zoom and office hours.
 - Balance between synchronous and asynchronous time for students.
 - Mandatory in-person testing, orientation, help sessions, and extended learning opportunities.
 - Options are available for students to work outside of the school day with teacher permission.
 
Enrollment into the Columbus Online Academy is completed through the lottery enrollment process and COA will become your child's home school.
SPECIALTY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES/CURRICULUM: College preparatory courses are offered in English, Science, Math, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Music and Technology. Students learn in a blended format, with a mix of in-person testing, synchronous class time with licensed teachers in virtual classrooms, and asynchronous elective and credit recovery options. Students have the option to apply for district Career Center Programs at Fort Hayes (half-day) and Columbus Downtown High School (full-time) for their junior and senior years. Qualifying students can take College Credit Plus/Dual Enrollment college courses on campuses and online.
