CCS Announces Four New Assistant Principals Ahead of 2024-25 School Year
July 2, 2024 -- Columbus City School is pleased to announce four new assistant principalships ahead of the 2024-25 school year.
Briggs High School
Briggs High School is proud to announce Dr. Ammar Al-Sharafi as the new Assistant Principal. Dr. Al-Sharafi brings a wealth of experience in education and administration, making him a valuable addition to our school community.
Dr. Al-Sharafi, a Leadership Intern at Independence High School since August 2023, is known for his unwavering commitment to student success. His collaborative approach, dedication to improving curriculum and instruction, and support for after-school activities and events have been instrumental in his effectiveness in these roles.
Before his recent role, Dr. Al-Sharafi was the Department Head and ESL English Teacher for grades 9-12 at Columbus City Schools from 2019 to 2023. His leadership in preparing students for state testing and his dedication to building strong relationships with parents and the community have significantly impacted the education of English learners.
Dr. Al-Sharafi's extensive teaching experience includes serving as an Adjunct Professor at Columbus State Community College and teaching ESL at various institutions, including Prospect Hill Academy and South-Western City Schools. His expertise in curriculum development, data analysis, and student evaluation has consistently enhanced student achievement.
Dr. Al-Sharafi's commitment to community service is truly inspiring. He has served as the President of the Soccer Club of Central Ohio and as the School Board Assistant Chair at Noor Cultural Center, where his strategic planning and leadership skills have greatly benefited these organizations, demonstrating his dedication to community engagement.
Dr. Al-Sharafi's fluency in Arabic and intermediate proficiency in Spanish are valuable assets that enhance his ability to connect with our diverse student body. This inclusivity is a testament to our commitment to embracing diversity at Briggs High School.

Fort Hayes Arts & Academics High School
Fort Hayes Arts & Academics High School is proud to announce the appointment of Joleata Johnson as the new Assistant Principal. With over 20 years of teaching, administration, and project management expertise, Ms. Johnson brings a wealth of experience and a dynamic approach to educational leadership.
Johnson's career in education began at Columbus City Schools, where she has served in various roles, including Assistant Principal at Columbus North International School. In this capacity, she chaired curriculum, safety, and student disciplinary policy meetings, supervised and evaluated school personnel, managed student behavior interventions, coordinated events, and acted as a test coordinator for various standardized tests. Her leadership and dedication have significantly contributed to the school's academic objectives and community engagement.
Before her role as Assistant Principal, Johnson was a School Improvement Specialist. There, she analyzed quantitative and qualitative school data to make informed instructional decisions and support schools working toward their Problem of Practice. She also trained teachers and administrators and facilitated professional development tailored to each school's needs.
Her teaching experience includes positions at Brookhaven High School and Mifflin High School, where she provided instruction in Literature and Advanced Placement Literature and Composition for grades 9-12. She served as English Department Chair, implemented innovative team-building exercises, and created programs to enhance student learning and engagement.
Among her notable accomplishments, Ms. Johnson has secured significant funding through grants, including a Technology Grant ($240,000), a United Way Grant ($1,200), and an AP Start-Up Grant ($10,000). She has been actively involved in numerous leadership roles, such as Senior Faculty Representative, Literacy Team Teacher, Technology Team member, Educators Knowledge Network Ambassador, and on the school's Leadership Team. Her professional development includes extensive training in educational leadership, technology, differentiated instruction, literacy strategies, and adult learning.
Johnson holds a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Ashland University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio University. Her comprehensive background and commitment to education will significantly benefit Fort Hayes Arts & Academics High School.

Marion-Franklin High School
Marion-Franklin High School is excited to announce the appointment of Isaiah Terrell as the new Assistant Principal.
Mr. Terrell, an equity-centered OSU BRIGHT Fellow, brings over a decade of experience in educational leadership and private-sector management to his new role.
Mr. Terrell holds a 5-year Professional License-Principal for Grades PK-6, 4-9, and 5-12, along with an Ohio Credentialed Teacher Evaluator (OTES 2.0). He has an Executive MBA from The Ohio State University and a BBA in Management from Davenport University.
As a Principal Intern/OSU BRIGHT Fellow at Columbus City Schools, Mr. Terrell facilitated math intervention programs, co-facilitated RTI action plans, and served on the interview panel for teacher recruitment. His tenure as Dean of Culture at Detroit Public Schools Community District saw him leading initiatives to improve classroom climates, student attendance, and community engagement.
His diverse background also includes significant management experience in the private sector, with roles at Huntington National Bank, Cardinal Health, American Income Life Insurance Co., and JP Morgan Chase & Co. His accomplishments in these positions include:

Marion-Franklin High School
Marion-Franklin High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Ratliff as the new Assistant Principal. He is a transformational school leader who empowers teachers and students to achieve their full potential. His commitment to creating an equitable learning environment aligns perfectly with the school's mission.
Ratliff joins us from Mifflin High School, where he has been serving as a Leadership Intern since August 2023. In this role, he collaborated with the administrative team to foster an environment of academic success. Ratliff served on the Building Leader Team to analyze the School Improvement Plan and develop action steps to achieve desired outcomes. He also facilitated a subcommittee focused on minimizing lost seat time for students and analyzed discipline data through an equity lens.
Before his role at Mifflin High School, Charles was an Instructional Coach at South High 7-12 from August 2022 to June 2023. There, he facilitated collaboration among teachers, administrators, and district personnel to identify areas for instructional improvement and partnered with teachers to implement research-based best practices. He mentored new teachers and guided curriculum planning, lesson delivery, and assessment practices.
From August 2021 to August 2022, he served as the Dean of Students at South High 7-12. In this role, he was a founding member of the PBIS team, served on the Building Leader Team, and was the Panorama Building Coordinator.
Ratliff has also had a distinguished career as a teacher within Columbus City Schools from August 2001 to June 2021. During this time, he mentored his students to achieve significant academic growth. He believed that restoring students' confidence and then implementing short term and long term goals for student growth led to great academic gains.
He holds a Principal License for PreK through 12 and a Teaching Certificate for grades 1-8. He earned his Master's of Education in Leadership with a 4.0 GPA from Miami University in April 2020 and his Master's in Education with a 3.96 GPA from Wright State University in May 2000. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Aviation Aircraft Systems from Ohio State University.
Ratliff believes in rallying behind a vision and forming action steps to transform that vision into reality. He is dedicated to the work leading to an equitable learning environment for all students and is committed to positively empowering teachers and students daily.
