As you know, you have selected an Alternative School with a Traditional Focus for your child. This means we:
- have high standards for academics and behavior,
- teach and model respect for self and others,
- provide a structured setting with an emphasis on self-discipline, routines, and positive habits.
We know that Stewart is different from many schools and that is why you have chosen to send your child to us. As staff, we take being an Alternative Traditional School very seriously, and strive daily to meet the high goals we have set for teaching and learning. Your role is a very important part of our Traditional Philosophy.
By attending Stewart, you commit to making sure your child:
- has his/her backpack on each day (because we all go to work prepared for the day),
- is at school daily (unless they are ill) with his/her nightly homework completed,
- is in a school uniform,
- behaves in a way that upholds an Alternative Traditional Philosophy.
Our parents also:
- check their child’s Friday Folder weekly,
- provide a space for their child to do their homework nightly,
- support with student behavior and prioritize learning
- make time for Parent Teacher Conferences, attend other school events,
- support the PTO
Being part of the Alternative Traditional School family requires a commitment between students, staff, and parents and it is not for everyone. On occasion, we have visitors who tour our school and decide an Alternative Traditional Philosophy is not a good fit for their child. And that is okay! What we do is provide an option for parents who see value in this philosophy. Knowing exactly what an Alternative Traditional School is, and what it stands for, promotes pride in students, parents, and staff alike. We are very proud of Stewart and we appreciate you and your support.
