Three New Principals Announced Ahead of 2024-25 School Year

Columbus City Schools is pleased to announce three new principalships ahead of the 2024-25 school year.

Broadleigh Elementary School

shawna mcfaddenBroadleigh Elementary School is pleased to announce Shawnya McFadden's appointment as its new Principal for the 2024-2025 school year.

Ms. McFadden, a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience in the district, is set to bring her extensive expertise and commitment to fostering a dynamic learning environment to Broadleigh.

Ms. McFadden has been a valued district member since 2001, starting with Columbus City Schools (CCS) as a Leadership Trainee and then as a principal with CCS since 2002. From 2002 to 2010, she was at East Columbus Elementary. She served as Principal at Innis Elementary School from 2010 to 2013 and, most recently, led Oakmont Elementary School from 2013 to 2024. Her leadership at Oakmont reflects her dedication to student development and her ability to create a supportive and engaging educational atmosphere.

Renowned for her fervor for education and forward-thinking approach, Ms. McFadden is eager to join the Broadleigh community. With her innovative vision, she anticipates positively impacting students, staff, and families and contributing to the continued success of Broadleigh Elementary School.

Burroughs Elementary School

rob loseeBurroughs Elementary is proud to announce the appointment of Robert Losee as the new Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Mr. Losee is an experienced and dedicated educational leader with over 27 years of service in the field. His expertise in fostering positive learning environments, implementing effective educational strategies, and managing school operations makes him an excellent fit for our community.

Throughout his career, Mr. Losee has effectively led multiple Columbus City School buildings and was instrumental in developing the Columbus Online Academy. His strategic leadership has consistently improved the academic and administrative functions of the schools he has overseen.

Mr. Losee holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University and has completed Superintendent Licensure at The Ohio State University. He is also licensed as a PreK-12 Principal from the University of Dayton. His commitment to parent communication, conflict resolution, and staff management has earned him a reputation as an advocate for faculty and students.

As Mr. Losee steps into his new role at Burroughs Elementary, we are confident that his outcome-driven approach and dedication to educational excellence will greatly benefit our students and staff. We welcome him with open arms and look forward to the positive changes he will bring to our school.

Oakmont Elementary School

kristy leighOakmont Elementary School is excited to announce Kristy Leigh's appointment as the new Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Dr. Leigh comes to Oakmont from Broadleigh Elementary School, where she led the school as Principal during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Dr. Leigh is a highly experienced and accomplished educator with over 20 years of experience in various roles within Columbus City Schools. Her previous position as Supervisor of Peer Assistance and Review saw her overseeing the district's induction and mentoring program, supporting both new and experienced teachers. As Principal of Cedarwood Alternative Elementary School, she significantly improved student behavior and established a robust and collaborative leadership culture.

Dr. Leigh's extensive educational background includes a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership from Ohio State University and a Master's in Educational Administration from Capital University. She was also National Board Certified as a Middle Childhood Generalist. These qualifications, along with her equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and numerous professional development programs, demonstrate her commitment to enhancing teacher effectiveness and student outcomes.

Dr. Leigh's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive educational environment, strategic leadership, and innovative approaches make her an excellent fit for Oakmont Elementary. The school community eagerly anticipates the positive impact she will bring.
