Two New Principals Announced Ahead of 2024-25 School Year

June 27, 2024 -- Columbus City School is pleased to announce two new principalships ahead of the 2024-25 school year.

Sullivant Elementary School

tammie galeColumbus City Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Tammie Gale as the new Principal, effective the 2024-2025 school year. Ms. Gale brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, community engagement, and instructional development to her new role.

Ms. Gale joins Sullivant Elementary from Lindbergh Elementary as the Leadership Intern in August 2023. During her tenure, she was pivotal in advancing school improvement initiatives, mainly focusing on improving attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism. Her innovative strategies and dedication to student success have left a lasting impact on the Lindbergh community.

One of Ms. Gale's notable achievements is her ability to foster positive relationships with parents, community members, and stakeholders.

She has strengthened community ties and enhanced parental involvement in school activities through effective communication and outreach efforts. Her commitment to building a collaborative school culture will be a tremendous asset to Sullivant.

In addition to her leadership at Lindbergh Elementary, Ms. Gale was a PAR Consulting Teacher from August 2019 to June 2023. She conducted classroom observations in this role, provided feedback, and supported teachers' professional growth. She also facilitated orientation sessions for new teachers, guiding them through their first year with valuable insights and support.

Ms. Gale has been actively involved with the World Language Department since November 2021, assisting with the Credit Flex and Seal of Biliteracy processes. Her diverse experience in curriculum development and instructional support demonstrates her comprehensive understanding of educational practices and policies.

Ms. Gale expressed her enthusiasm about joining Sullivant Elementary: "I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such a wonderful school. I am committed to working collaboratively with the staff, students, and parents to ensure every student thrives academically and personally. We will continue building a supportive and inclusive school community."

Wedgewood Middle School

amandaWedgewood Middle School is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Amanda Mitskevich as its new Principal. Dr. Mitskevich has been a valued member of the Wedgewood community since 2016, serving as the Assistant Principal. She now steps into her new role with a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Dr. Mitskevich's unwavering dedication and passion for student success have driven her educational journey. As Assistant Principal at Wedgewood Middle School, she has worked tirelessly to develop and implement school policies, conduct teacher evaluations, lead professional development sessions, manage disciplinary actions, and foster a positive school culture. Her ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and the community has been a cornerstone of her tenure, ensuring a nurturing and supportive environment for all.

Before joining Wedgewood Middle School, Dr. Mitskevich gained valuable experience as a Leadership Intern at Hilltonia Middle School, where she observed and shadowed experienced leaders to gain insights into strategic planning and organizational dynamics. She also served as an Intervention Specialist at Yorktown Middle School, working closely with parents and teachers to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.

At Oak Grove Middle School, Dr. Mitskevich was instrumental in creating and launching the AVID program, increasing the advanced courses, and securing partnerships with local colleges. Her role as a Reading Intervention Specialist at Azalea Middle School further highlights her commitment to improving student outcomes through targeted instruction and data-driven interventions.

Dr. Mitskevich holds a Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, a Master's in Educational Leadership, and a Bachelor's in Exceptional Student Education K-12. Her extensive educational background and diverse professional experience equip her with the skills and knowledge to lead Wedgewood Middle School effectively.

Dr. Mitskevich is excited to begin her journey as Principal of Wedgewood Middle School and is committed to enhancing the educational experience for all students. She looks forward to continuing the school's tradition of excellence and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
