During National School Lunch Week, CCS Serves One Millionth Fuel Up Meal
October 14, 2020 -- Columbus City Schools has distributed its one millionth meal since the Fuel Up program started last month. The District reached this significant milestone during the 11-1 pm distribution time slot today.
In five weeks, CCS has handed out one million grab-n-go meals at 44 distribution sites set up once schools closed and the District went to complete remote learning. The boxed meals helped ensure our CCS family members under 18 years of age were getting food while schools remain closed due to the pandemic.
Coincidentally, this week also happens to be National School Lunch Week. It was 58 years ago that President John F. Kennedy created the weeklong celebration, aimed at promoting the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child's life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. Across the country, 30 million public school students receive free nutritious breakfast and lunch.
