West High School Sees Significant Investments to Indoor Athletic Facilities
December 18, 2023 – As the track updates are underway, West High School is seeing additional renovations happening inside the building. The gymnasium and weight room are both receiving a face-lift. New paint and banners with West’s logo and championship game years cover the gym walls, and the weight room is getting stocked with brand new equipment.
West athletes are excited about these updates and look forward to utilizing the fresh athletic facilities. Iyonna Hollomne, a West senior, plays on the girls’ basketball team. West has received strong community support as the updates have progressed, and Hollomne feels appreciated knowing that people support her and her fellow Cowboys.
“There’s been a lot of maintenance and remodeling going on in the gym,” Hollomne said. “At first, we thought that maybe people didn’t put time into West, but now people are doing things in the gym and around the building. It feels good.”
The updates are not only to give athletes an upgraded space to practice. West’s principal, Dr. Daniel Roberts, and his staff are working tirelessly to instill a sense of pride in West’s students. By giving students modern, attractive spaces like the gym to utilize during the day, Dr. Roberts hopes students will feel proud of their school.
“We want our students to be proud to be Cowboys,” he said. “Equity is a non-negotiable for us, and we will always work to give our students the best possible opportunities here at West High School.”
Dr. Roberts is eager to continue building on this momentum. He wants students like Hollomne to know that people both in the building and in the community are excited and ready to invest in West.
