Dedicated to Excellence in Education
Bryce Wilson, freshman at West, is finishing out the year with the book 'Scythe.' Read his thoughts on this science-fiction thriller below.
In a "utopian" society where there is no natural death, people are chosen to kill, called Scythes. Two teens are selected and become apprentices for a Scythe, but only one will become a Scythe. The two train until their first test comes, in which they fail, one on purpose. Then their mentor "dies" and they're both split apart with new mentors, one being sadistic, and the other compassionate. Their next test comes in which the same event happens, with one of them getting disqualified on purpose.
One of them is framed for the murder of their mentor so the person searches and finds he lied about his own death. In the last trial the person with the compassionate mentor becomes a Scythe and they save the other person, who becomes a vigilante, hunting down evil Scythes.
