West Students Teach Elementary Students to Play Chess

This month, West students visited Westgate Elementary School where they met a group of Westgate students and played chess with them. West students taught the elementary schoolers several high-level chess moves to help them elevate their games.

Senior Joyahna Smith was one of the students who played with the Westgate kids. She shared her experience working with them; read more below!

At Westgate Elementary School, we taught kids how to castle, do back openings, and knight attacks. We played regular matches to see how they play, and then gave them notes and advice on certain moves that could benefit them. They were wonderful to play with! They have a lot of drive and power to win. They will most definitely become chess masters.
