Columbus City Schools Launches New Health Initiative to Support Families, School Communities
March 14, 2023 -- Columbus City Schools is partnering with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, PrimaryOne Health, and Spectrum News 1 to make education and health-related resources more accessible across the Greater Columbus community with the launch of the Edu+Health Caravan.
“I truly believe the Edu+Health Caravan can be a game changer for families across our community,” said Interim Superintendent/CEO Dr. Angela Chapman. “The partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, PrimaryOne Health, and Spectrum News 1 allows us to meet families where they are and eliminate barriers to these much-needed resources.”
The first Edu+Health mobile community event is March 18 at La Plaza Tapatia (255 Georgesville Rd, 43228), from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. District staff and community partners will be on-hand providing academic support, health screenings, immunizations, employment resources, and other services.
APRIL UPDATE: The second Edu+Health mobile community event is April 22 at New Birth Ministries (3475 Refugee Road) from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
“PrimaryOne Health is excited to partner with Columbus City Schools to ‘Drive Good Health to You!’,” said Charleta B. Tavares, PrimaryOne Health CEO. “It is our tagline for our Mobile Health Centers, but it is also our priority to meet our children and families at convenient locations where they shop, play, pray, and recreate. This will help to eliminate transportation barriers to receive our healthcare services.”
“Children’s environments have a tremendous impact on their health,” said Sara M. Bode, MD, primary care physician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and medical director of the hospital’s school-based health services. “Nationwide Children’s Hospital is deeply invested in helping children where they are – in school, at home, and in their community. This partnership with Columbus City Schools is another effort to offer families much-needed preventive health services.”
The Edu+Health Caravan series will continue to travel to various locations across Columbus. The vision for this collaborative initiative is to help families improve their overall health and well-being through more equitable access to resources.
