• Clinton Elementary is proud to be able to offer activities to students across a wide range of interests. 

  • Chess clubs

    There are two chess clubs  - one for students in grades K through 2 and Chessmates, for students in grades 3 through 5. 

    Clinton Chessmates begins Monday, September 17 and will meet every Monday for 10 weeks. Snack and playground from 3:30-4:30, chess lesson and play from 4:30-5:30. Your child needs to know how to move all the pieces, open and close. Coach Kyle Jones provides a lesson to help them improve to being tournament ready. Parents need to volunteer at least one Monday a semester & be willing to volunteer to help with the spring chess tournament. Fee will be $60/semester (subsidized from our spring chess tournament).

    K-2 Chess is organized by Uwe Trittman. Fall registration happens in September & space is limited to 20 students. There will be another opportunity to sign up in the winter. See more information here or contact Uwe at utrittmann@otterbein.edu.

     

    Destination Imagination

    Each year Clinton forms several DI teams, based on the number of interested students and coaches. 

    The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. Teams may showcase their solutions at a tournament. More information can be found at www.destinationimagination.org.

     

    MLK Oratory 

    Students in grades 1-5 will learn about the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr. through readings and group discussions. Students will use their findings to create a speech in preparation for a citywide speech competition that occurs in December or January, exact date to be announced. Starting in mid-November, students will meet weekly to prepare. 

     

    Girls on the Run 

    Over a period of 10 weeks, girls in the 3rd through 5th grade can participate in an after-school program like no other. Designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength, the Girls on the Run curriculum inspires girls to define their lives on their own terms. Throughout the season, the girls make new friends, build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique.

    Let Me Run 

    Let Me Run is much more than a running program for boys. Our trained coaches combine exercise with fun activities and lessons to help boys learn teamwork, build relationship skills, create friendships, grow emotionally, amplify their self-esteem, empower themselves and others, and live an active lifestyle. We nurture and celebrate every aspect of what it really means to be a boy, and we let them run.
