- What Makes Our School Outstanding
-
We are a small school of approximatley 300 students located in the South Linden Neighborhood of Columbus Ohio. "Linden is in the northeastern part of Columbus. It extends south to north from 8th Avenue to Ward Road and west to east from Conrail tracks to Joyce Avenue/Westerville Road. The neighborhood is officially bounded on the south, west and east by Conrail-operated railroads. Hudson Street divides the neighborhood into North and South Linden. The Linden neighborhood was part of a land grant by John Adams to George Stevenson of Delaware for his service in the American War of Independence. Early settlers such as Frederick Weber, Gustavus Innis and Henry Huy are commemorated in the names of local roads." (Columbus Neighborhoods.org)
It is the Como Elementary Staff responsibility to ensure that each student makes academic gains each year. School Leadership, parents, and students are all working towards the same goal: To increase the academic achievement of every student every day. We focus that effort with a compliment of strategies aimed at the individual child. With a combination of Literacy Collaborative Reading approach, our new reading curriculum, Ready, our new math curriculum, Fundations, a focused effort on social and emotional learning and a strong emphasis on Positive Behavioral supports, the students at Como Elementary are "being prepared to be life-long learners, highly-educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as a citizen in a global community". (CCS)
Como recognizes all student achievement, responsible behavior, and outstanding attendance at quarterly Awards Assemblies. Our PBIS supports offer a rememberable slogan: SOAR.
One hundred percent of the Como Elementary teaching staff have been designated as highly qualified, with more than 85% having a Master's Degree.
