August 23, 2024 – As Columbus City Schools kicks off the new school year, students at Mifflin High School and Scottwood Elementary School are stepping into revitalized spaces designed to inspire learning. These recent renovations go beyond just a fresh look; they create enhanced environments that support the educational journeys of our youngest learners and those working toward graduation.

"Our capital improvements at Mifflin High School and Scottwood Elementary are more than just enhancements to our facilities," said Columbus City Schools Superintendent/CEO, Dr. Angela Chapman. “They represent our commitment to providing our students with environments that inspire learning and growth. “As we continue to invest in our schools, we're not just building better buildings; we're building brighter futures for our students and our community,” Dr. Chapman emphasized.

Scottwood Elementary School's overhauled building now matches its vibrant personality, sparking curiosity and love of learning as the students that walk through the doors every day. Recent renovations have transformed the school into a dynamic and engaging space, complete with bright, welcoming classrooms with new furnishings, fresh paint, modern flooring, improved lighting, and the technology necessary to prepare students for the digital future.

This is what our students deserve and will keep them wanting to come back everyday."

The summer renovations by CCS's dedicated capital improvements team fulfill promises to create environments where students can dream big and achieve more. These updates are not just about improving the physical space but about enhancing the overall learning experience. As students enter the newly renovated Scottwood Elementary and Mifflin High School, they step into spaces designed to help them grow, learn, and thrive.

“These learning environment improvements signal an important evolution in how we expect teachers to teach and students to learn,” said Director of Capital Improvements, Alex Trevino. “The spaces are refreshed to look clean and modern, but more importantly, they’ve been designed with our Portrait of Graduate attributes in mind.”

This school year is set to be one of excitement and achievement, made possible by the dedication and hard work behind the scenes on over 121 summer improvement projects spread over 67 sites. These projects range from new windows, new playgrounds to building renovations or new asphalt. Each project completed serves a critical purpose to ensure better and safer learning environments for all students at Columbus City Schools.
