Berwick Teachers are Ready for Summer Experience 2022
June 17, 2022 -- Twas' the week before Summer Experience; outside of Berwick Alternative K-8 school building, all is quiet.
Not one student in sight (at least not this week)!
Walking into the building's corridor, teachers are preparing for Summer Experience 2022. With a morning welcome from Berwick Principal Kyla Mitchell, teachers are gearing up to welcome students back for one of the most unique, innovative, and interactive summer programs at CCS.
This year's Summer Experience will immerse students in six weeks of grade-appropriate enrichment at partner sites across the city. The curriculum, set to strengthen students' academic skills, will also engage students in leadership, and social-emotional learning through problem-solving and project-based learning, team-building activities, and theme-based design challenges.
Berwick's theme this year is fine arts. In addition, kindergarten and elementary students will participate in mini-camps at destinations such as Spruce Run, the District's Nature Center, and the Columbus Zoo, to name a few.
"These mini-camps will keep students active and engaged. This is especially important for students living within the city who do not have the opportunity to visit these attractions often," said Principal Mitchell.
Heading to set up her classroom, teacher Jessica Rouse, who is teaching 2nd grade at Summer Experience, is excited for the learning and engagement opportunities students will participate in this session of Summer Experience.
"Summer Experience will provide students with something to do this summer. They will definitely stay busy," said Ms. Rouse.
Kicking off bright and early at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, Summer Experience will conclude Thursday, July 28. Visit Summer Experience for more program details.
